Earlier this year we went to visit the home of Olivia Bartley, better known as Olympia. Having just released her debut record, Self Talk, Olympia welcomed us into her Brunswick East home and showed us around the space where she wrote most of the songs on the album.
The space itself is part share house, part New York loft. We were led through the corridor into an enormous living room area, where Olympia spends most of her time. Synths, lyrics, guitar pedals, coffee cups and trophies (more on that later) lay around the room, in a state of organised chaos. One side of the room, Olympia's "Game of Thrones" space, was occupied by a couch, a fire place and a projector screen, whilst the other side had all her musical equipment set up, all swimming in early morning sunlight.
Olivia popped the espresso machine on and hooked us up with some of the good stuff, all the while running us through her song-writing process and unique love of collecting trophies from op-shops. It was a short and sharp visit, but full of classic moments!
