Following our last post Shaky Hands took a cheeky two-week hiatus, with Jules jet setting off to China for a holiday in the clubs and Ben taking his tent into the bush for some rest and recovery. After such a long time apart we emotionally reconvened Monday morning to head out to visit Melody Pool in her Coburg abode.
First of all it was 38 degrees. The hay fever was kicking in but we managed to find the address and knock on the right door, where we were welcomed by super champion Melody and her epileptic dog, Holly. The Christmas tree was already up and the festive vibe of the house in full swing. Melody showed us around all the while chatting about everything from Flight of the Conchords to her upcoming support slot for Rodriguez in Perth.
Melody’s ability to spin a yarn and have a laugh is only paralleled by her song writing abilities, and makes her the kind of person you want to share a drink with in a country pub. Her sophomore album Deep Dark Savage Heart is really, really good: dark, intense, angry, gentle, endearing, direct and honest. Melody's workspace alternates between the living room and her bedroom, as her writing process requires only a guitar and an iPhone to record. With her housemate/"number one fan" always keen to hear new tracks, Melody allows the comfort of her home to stimulate her creative headspace. This studio visit was the first of Shaky Hands’ collaboration with Riverboats Music Festival, and we’re pleased to say it’s off to a flying start!
It was a super nice visit, we weren’t in a hurry to leave but Melody had to go to work so we bid her adieu and parted ways. Thanks again for having us and see you at Riverboats in Feb!
