The idea of Shaky Hands first originated from a conversation between myself and Ben over a Sunday coffee in October of last year. Discussing the idea of how great it would be to hang out with the musicians we loved and hopefully present them in a more personal setting, we got talking about the possible musicians we could focus on. Client Liaison was thrown into the mix and from there we got very excited about the project. We started wondering what it'd be like to shoot Client Liaison in their own studio. Are they actually the people we see on stage? Is Monte's mullet there 24/7? And how do they keep finding all the sweet Ansett gear? All of these questions suddenly needed to be answered.
So it was a dream come true two weeks ago, almost exactly one year after our Sunday coffee, when Ben and I received an e-mail from Client Liaison formally inviting us to come visit Client Liaison HQ.
Before we go any further though, let's make it clear that Client Liaison are no ordinary band. So it made absolute sense that our Shaky Hands visit to their CBD headquarters would end up being one of the most surreal experiences we've ever encountered. The address we were given in the e-mail took us straight into the centre of all the action on Collins St on a chaotic Wednesday morning. After pushing through the crowds of business men and couriers, we finally made it into an elevator that was heading straight to the top floor of a heritage listed office block.
Client Liaison HQ is an odd place but also exactly how you’d imagine it to be - an office space that mixes business with pleasure effortlessly. Newspaper clippings and financial graphs covered the walls while bar fridges and leafy office plants occupied most corners of the rooms. After finally meeting Monte and Harvey, we had a sit down and quick chat about their upcoming album Diplomatic Immunity before they took us on a tour of their labyrinth of an office, which included a wardrobe department, music studio, conference room (with mini-fridge) as well as a stockroom which housed their soon to be launched Client Liaison designer clothing brand.
With the deal all but finalised we shook hands for the cameras and headed for home. Huge thanks to the guys for having us and sorry we couldn’t find any Fosters!
